Wavamunno Broadcasting Station (WBS), one of Uganda’s oldest Television stations will cease operations in Uganda effective today, 14th December 2016. The station was recently placed under receivership by Uganda Revenue Authority to recover over UGX 7 Billion in unpaid taxes. The tax Authority hoped to turn around the company with new management but it seems all efforts and strategies that were tried out would not cope with the current broadcasting standards set by the likes of NTV and NBS.

The company also lacked capital to meet the urgent needs of for the preferred turnaround strategies and this resulted to the sale of the company’s assets to recover the monies due. All of WBS assets have need sold to the much awaited for KweseTV, a regional station that has been known as a Free Sports brand that airs sports programming that includes the much loved English Premier League (EPL), ESPN, to mention but a few.

This blog has also been informed that the above transactions have now been approved and consented on by UCC and Ugandan Broadcasting Corporation. This means that from today, WBS will cease to operations in Uganda.
